Graduated in 2004 by Hogeschool Zuyd in Maastricht (Netherlands) and awarded in several international competitions such as the “WMC Kerkrade” (Netherlands) in 2005 and “Concours pour Jeunes Chefs d’Orchestre” Dijon (France) in 2010, for years he combined his work as percussion concertist with his activity as conductor. Very interested in contemporary music, he has conducted the world premieres of more than 30 works by European composers and performed in several contemporary music festivals through Europe and the USA.
His wide and heterogeneous training as conductor includes the specific and deep work of diverse repertoires with great teachers for more than a decade. He has worked actively with teachers such as: Kurt Masur, Peter Eötvos, Neeme Järvi, Paavo Järvi, Jorma Panula, Arturo Tamayo, Konrad von Abel, Georges Pehlivanian, Yaron Traub, etc. within institutions such as Manhattan School of Music in New York, “Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana” in Switzerland “Bartok International Seminar” in Hungary, the “International Järvi Academy” of Estonia, the IRCAM in Paris, among others.
In 2011 had his conducting debut with the BBC Philharmonic Manchester for a recording of the soundtrack for the TV movie “The Real History of Britain” produced by the BBC itself. He has worked as conductor with orchestras such as the Orquesta de Radiotelevisión Española, JONDE (National Youth Orchestra of Spain) of which he was also assistant conductor in 2012 and 2015, Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra, Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Jorcam (Youth Orchestra of the Community of Madrid) with whom he is frequently guest conductor, Bulgarian State Opera for a complete production of Madama Butterfly, Symphony Orchestra Corrientes (Argentina), Pärnu City Orchestra (Estonia), Orchestra of the Opera de Dijon (France), ATRIVM Symphony Orchestra (Spain), among many others.
Among his major upcoming engagements include many projects with professional ensembles at the Quincena Musical Donostiarra with Ensemble Sonido Extremo (music by Luciano Berio); a tour with the Ensemble20-21 with music by Schoenberg and Stravinsky; concerts as guest conductor of the Ensemble Espai Sonor with music by Georg Friedrich Haas, and Jordi will also be conductor for the opera production of “Brundibar” by Hans Krása in Teatro Real of Madrid in April 2016.
Jordi Francés has been principal conductor of ATRIVM Symphony Orchestra (2007-2010), the Orchestra of Polytechnic School in Alcoy (2006-2008) and “Societat Filarmónica d’Altea” (2008-2011) among others. He has also work as assistant of Lutz Köhler, Arturo Tamayo and José Ramon Encinar.
As a soloist or chamber musician, he has performed in numerous countries in Europe, Asia, America and Africa, participated in important festivals and working with internationally acclaimed composers like Philippe Hurel, Héctor Parra, Peter Eötvös, David Maslanka, Jesús Torres, José Luis Torá, Louis Aguirre, Cesar Camarero, etc. and has also made world premiere recordings of some of these works, highlighting the published CD’s with NEXEnsemble.
Has been also musical director for the project called “Institutional Strengthening of the conservatories of the Rabat” carried out in collaboration with AECID (Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development), through which he taught courses regularly at conservatories in the region of Rabat (Morocco) between 2008 and 2012.
He has taught courses and master classes in various European schools and conservatories as CNSM de Lyon, Gran Canaria, Valencia, etc. Together with Sisco Aparici creates NEXEensemble having had and intense educational and artistic work for years, highlighting Spanish premiere of “LE NOIR DE L’ETOILE” by Gerard Grisey, “Écart en temps” by Philippe Hurel, “SteelWave”, etc., and also founded the International Composition Competition NEXEnsemble, having been in 2009 its second edition.
